Matthew Goode is playing rough with a bevy of beauties including Bojana Novakovic, Rachel Griffiths, Essie Davis, Kerry Fox, Kate Beahan and Gia Carides in writer-director Jonathan Teplitzky’s “Burning Man.” Goode plays Tom, an English chef with a chic restaurant on Bondi Beach trying to put his life and his relationship with his son back on track while surrounded by women. Produced by U.K. producer Andy Paterson and Teplitzky, the film shoots on location in Sydney, with backing from Screen Australia, Screen NSW, Standard Chartered Bank and the Australian Producer Offset. Cedric Jeanson’s New York-based Filmbox are handling international sales in Cannes, with Transmission taking all rights in Australia and New Zealand. Stephan Merchant said he rejected Robert Pattinson as a possibility to star in his film Cemetery Junction. The comedian said he and Ricky Gervais – who wrote and directed the project together – chose to cast relatively unknown, up-and-coming British actors in the film because they didn’t want stars such as the Twilight actor stealing the spotlight.
The film, released on April 14, is a ‘coming of age’ story following a group of young people growing up in the 70s in Reading, where Gervais himself was raised. Christian Cooke (star of ITV’s supernatural series Demons and school drama Trinity), Tom Hughes and Jack Doolan play the three main characters. The cast also includes Gervais, Felicity Jones, Ralph Fiennes, Emily Watson and Matthew Goode (Ozymandias in Watchmen). Cemetery Junction was originally called The Man From The Pru, a phrase and advertising slogan referring to Prudential insurance agents. But after allowing access to their archives for research, company bosses didn’t like how the business was portrayed in the finished screenplay and banned the use of their name. The new title comes from the busy road junction in Reading where the story takes place. It was also filmed in Loughborough. Merchant and Ricky Gervais previously collaborated on British sitcom The Office, starring Gervais. They are also executive producers on the US version of the show, with Merchant directing one episode. Merchant has also had roles in Hot Fuzz, Run Fatboy Run, The Invention of Lying (starring Gervais) and Tooth Fairy. (Source) |

I would like to remind everyone: From 8:30 to 9:30pm local time, hundreds of millions of people around the world will switch off their lights and participate in Earth Hour, the largest climate awareness event ever held. As climate change will effect people on every continent, we think a united, global call for action to address the problem is needed. Turning off the lights won’t solve the climate crisis, but it’s a start. Earth Hour gives individuals a simple, meaningful way to participate in a global call for change. As U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon stated, “Earth Hour is a way for the citizens of the world to send a clear message — they want action on climate change.” So I hope you’ll gather your friends and family and join me, and hundreds of millions of others, in turning off the lights. And please include the light in the fridge. (Source) |

Warner Bros., New Line, MGM, producer Peter Jackson and screenwriter and director Guillermo del Toro have been surprisingly quiet on the subject of when “The Hobbit” will begin shooting, but returning “Lord of the Rings” trilogy star Ian McKellen certainly isn’t. The Oscar-nominated acting legend is returning as Gandalf the Grey for the big screen adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s prequel to “Rings” and posted new information regarding the project on his website.
Rumors have been swirling that del Toro and crew were still having problems with the screenplay. Moreover, the company still hasn’t cast the crucial role of the young Bilbo Baggins (Matthew Goode auditioned). Ian Holm played the older Baggins in the “LOTR” trilogy, but is not expectd to return. This announcement is also curious as New Line/Warner Bros. haven’t officially greenlit the project as of yet. (Source) |

Matthew Goode has spoken about his recent Telegraph interview, where he labelled his latest film Leap Year “turgid”. The actor turned up to a special screening of the film at London’s Barbican was joined by the director Anand Tucker. The event was organised by the City of London School for Girls’ ‘Women in Film’ Festival, with the pair being interviewed by student Claudia Paterson. She brought up the fact Goode is known for his blunt comments, prompting the Single Man star to remark on the article.
Goode mentioned David Niven’s book The Moon’s a Balloon, explaining to the students it “portrayed the kind of Hollywood I wish I was working in”, pointing out that Sam Goldwyn would control reporters’ access to the actors, and they would have to earn the right to be a star. He also revealed that he was moved by Vanessa Redgrave’s passionate speech at the BAFTAs last month, after “having a bit of a crap week” because of the Telegraph piece. (Source) |
